Australia 2 - Alice Springs
Day 124: Tuesday July 20th 2004. Arrived in Alice Springs. I booked on a tour leaving ridiculously early in the morning and spent the evening in the bar. Was kept awake late by a really pissed bloke in my dorm who insisted on watching TV until 3am and snoring loudly thereafter. There's always one.
Day 125: Wednesday July 21st 2004. A group of twenty of so of us started out after a fruitless trip to the police station to pick up someone who had managed to get themselves arrested the night before! After a brief stop for a camel ride and to meet a tame dingo, we drove for hours before reaching Kings canyon, where we went for a hike. By the time we reached the water the weather had warmed up. We got back to the bus and set off for the campsite. On the way we stopped for fuel and sunset photos of Attila's rock.
Tame Dingo | Camel ride | Nasty looking spider | The canyon | Recent rockfall | Flowers for the lady |
Rock formation | Gum tree | Eden | Another bug | Attila's rock | camped out |
Day 126: Thursday July 22nd 2004. Having slept fairly well in the 'swag bags', we set off for Uluru (Ayers rock). Most of us decided to climb the rock, despite the wind and warnings. Once we all got to the top, some random guy was collared to take photos for us all - he had to sit there for ages, taking the same shot of us all with camera after camera, the poor bloke! The view was a full 360 degrees - stunning. It's one of those views you just cannot capture with a camera...
Breakfast | View during ascent | On top of the rock | View | The descent | Sunset | Inferno |
This is the picture I'd planned to make from the start. I've not touched the colours at all - it's all natural...

Day 127: Friday July 23rd 2004. We got up very early to go see the sunrise at the Olgas. We had no tea or coffee. It was a good sunrise though. Then it was the last hike of the tour - my legs were starting to ache, but the scenery was breathtaking.
Sunrise | No tea! | Olgas 1 |
Olgas 2 | Into the valley | Last view |
What a wicked trip! We all met up for dinner in the evening, and then went out clubbing...
Dinner | Too many |
Day 128: Saturday July 24th 2004. I woke up pretty late, and checked out about two hours too late, which luckily wasn't a problem. After exchanging a few more contact details I got a lift to the airport and flew to Cairns.
